Welcome to the gallery
For over fifty years, we at Fednav have been an active presence in the Canadian Arctic.
Our private collection of numerous paintings and sculptures pay homage to the land and people of the High Arctic. It is our hope that through this gallery, we can share with you our fascination with, and passion for, Canada's vast northern frontier.
This gallery features a collection Hilton Hassell paintings-the work of a Canadian artist who experienced first-hand the harsh yet pristine Canadian north onboard one of our vessels.
When Fednav invited him to make his voyage to the Arctic on the MV Tundraland in 1974, only one condition was set: that Fednav should have the right of first refusal to buy any finished work at Hilton Hassell's asking price. In due course, Mr. Hassell came to Montreal and setup up a private exhibition on an empty floor of the Stock Exchange Tower, where Fednav then had its head office. At the exhibition, it was decided, without hesitation, that we would purchase the whole collection. Fednav is proud of its association with this part of Hilton Hassell's career.
