THE FEDNAV GROUP DEPARTMENTS


Chartering Department


Fednav's Chartering department is responsible for the scheduling and chartering-in of cargoes and chartering-out of its owned and chartered fleet on a worldwide scale. This is accomplished with the assistance of our commercial offices in Antwerp, Hamburg, Brisbane, Tokyo, and Rio. In addition, Fednav maintains close contact with customers and brokers around the world. We execute approximately 650 voyages per year carrying in excess of 25 million tons. This is the result of a mix of long-term contracts and spot-market contracts. This profession requires some knowledge of marine law, geography, marketing, and above all, strong interpersonal marketing and communication skills.

 

Operations Department


Fednav's Operations department is responsible for the planning and operation of all voyages performed by Fednav's time-chartered and owned fleet.

This entails ensuring that each voyage is performed in the most efficient manner; always keeping in mind that customer service, environmental protection, crew and ship safety, as well as security, are of the highest importance.

Effective communications, liaising with port agents, stevedores, customers, etc., in addition to a constant dialogue with shipmasters, vessel owners as well as our customers, directly or via their brokers, are key to our success.

Additionally, we are responsible for purchasing fuel, towage and pilotage services, directly or via our port agents, and for the overall financial success of each voyage.

Our team is made up of dedicated and professional individuals who look after the operation of our fleet, cargo stowages, voyage planning, contract administration, documentation and quality control.

Our operating philosophy is clearly driven by excellence in terms of customer service, safety, security and strict environmental protection standards.

 

Finance Department


Fednav's Finance department is responsible for all aspects of accounting, treasury, taxation, and financial reporting activities of Fednav Limited and its subsidiaries. These responsibilities include the monthly accounting for areas such as accounts payable to owners and agents, and accounts receivable from customers. Also included is the daily management of worldwide cash flows and the monthly consolidation and preparation of the Group's financial results. Additionally, the Finance department is responsible for reconciling the revenues and expenses of the Company's fleet of ships, and managing taxation strategy and compliance.

Corporate Services Department
Fednav's Corporate Services department is responsible for managing the premises of the Montreal Head Office of the Fednav Goup. These responsibilities include leasehold improvements, relationships with the building managers, and security. The mailroom and reception staff provide essential services to both internal and external clients. Wireless communication is actively managed and supported to ensure that the latest technology is available. Negotiations and arrangements for the corporate travel programme are also handled by Corporate Services.

Human Resources Department
The Fednav Group's success lies in its people. The Human Resources department's role is to ensure that its most important asset-its employees-are motivated and their skills and talents effectively applied in order to accomplish Fednav's goals and objectives according to the values that drive the organization and the shipping industry.

The Human Resources team works through partnering with management and listening to employee needs and responding accordingly. By monitoring latest HR trends and tendencies and applying new concepts to our entrepreneurial environment, we are able to maintain and sustain a competitive edge.

Information Technology Department
Fednav's Information Technology department is responsible for supporting the worldwide information technology needs of the Fednav Group. These responsibilities include software development and maintenance of hardware, Internet, and communication systems. Key software applications maintained by the IT department allow for ship scheduling, cargo documentation and financial reporting. The department is comprised of the Manager, three software developers, and four computer support personnel.

 

Communications Department


Fednav's Communications department is a fast-paced, responsive group responsible for the development and implementation of all communications programmes. This energetic and efficient team represents and raises the Fednav profile in internal and external communications and provides communications tools, counsel, and relevant support to all departments. Its aim is to maintain consistency across the Fednav Group's outgoing electronic and printed matter in terms of visual identity and corporate branding. 

 

Corporate Counsel/Secretary Department


Fednav's Corporate Counsel/Secretary department is responsible for the incorporation and maintenance of the minute books of Fednav Group companies and the Group's corporate, commercial, and financing legal requirements, as well as government relations. It is responsible for the documentation of all non-marine contracts, financing agreements, and the prosecution and defence of non-marine litigation. In addition, it provides legal advice to the Group and maintains and supervises the Group's various corporate regulatory filings.

 

Federal Marine Terminals


FMT is in the business of cargo handling. It handles export, import, and domestic cargoes to and from vessels, barges, rail cars, and trucks. Priding itself on fast, efficient, and damage-free handling of a wide array of cargoes at its U.S. and Canadian terminals,  FMT handles all types of steel products, project cargoes, containers, forest products, agricultural products, frozen foods, automobiles, and various dry bulk commodities.

FMT has developed a cargo management system that employs state-of-the-art proprietary software to track cargo while it is in its care and custody. FMT boasts a well-trained, safety-oriented labour force that operates modern cranes, equipment, and gear to provide high-quality stevedoring services for its customers' cargoes.

 

Fednav Direct


Fednav Direct is the logistical arm of FIL, FALLine, and FMT. We offer value added on-carriage services, inventory management, as well as 24/7 delivery services for import cargoes shipped throughout the USA and Canada. Headquartered in Montreal with a satellite office in Cleveland, Ohio, Fednav Direct manages over 250,000mt per year.

Working with the Fednav group of companies, Fednav Direct is a single point of contact for customers looking to streamline and simplify their supply-chain-management. Whether moving breakbulk cargo, specialized and over-dimensional projects, or bulk commodities by truck, rail, or barge, Fednav Direct coordinates, manages, and delivers to the end user. 

 

Enfotec Technical Services


Enfotec is a Canadian company specializing in the provision of ice navigation support services to shipping companies, resource developers, and government agencies worldwide. Enfotec is a subsidiary of Fednav Limited of Montreal, Canada 's largest ocean-going ship owning and chartering group. Enfotec was created from the Research and Development Group of Canarctic Shipping, a Division of Fednav Limited, in 1996. The Company encompasses more than twenty years' experience in the field of ice navigation technology development having worked on all of the pioneering breakthroughs in ice navigation technology development on the MV Arctic, the world's highest ice class commercial cargo vessel.

 

Federal Atlantic Lakes Line (FALLine)


Operating for over 47 years, FALLine is a division of Fednav International Ltd. It is a breakbulk liner service operating vessels between North European ports (the main load port being in Antwerp) and Canadian and U.S. Great Lakes ports and the St. Lawrence.

FALLine is responsible for negotiating and lifting various cargoes where the base commodity is contracted steel. This includes, but is not limited to, coils, plates, wire rods, billets, and structural steels like beams and bars. It has expertise in lifting general and heavy cargo, which includes crates of packed and unpacked machinery and transformers. On average, FALLine lifts roughly one million metric tons of cargo each Lakes season and is supported by a network of European agents. Close customer contact and adapting to changing markets and customer needs is an essential component to its overall success.

 

Canarctic Shipping


A division of Fednav Limited, Canarctic is responsible for the Group's Arctic activities-these currently include the transportation of metal concentrates from Northern Canadian mines to the St. Lawrence and resupply cargo back to these facilities through ice covered waters.

 

Agro-Hall Ltd.


Agro-Hall is a fully owned subsidiary of Fednav Limited, is a grain-trading company based in Montreal with a second office in Winnipeg. It is an agent for the Canadian Wheat Board dealing primarily with the export of Canadian grain to destinations worldwide.
